Kettering Borough Council Wardens and Northamptonshire Police continue to keep the community safe with joint Covid-19 patrols

Published: Tuesday, 16th February 2021

Wardens from Kettering Borough Council and Officers from Northamptonshire Police are carrying out daily joint patrols around the borough to help keep the community safe during the national lockdown.

Over the last week, a total of 7 fines have been issued to people who have breached Covid-19 safety rules, which include not wearing a face covering when required.

The joint patrols have been coordinated as a result of the national lockdown, to promote government guidelines and enforce regulations in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Officers and wardens continue to engage with the public and provide reassurance, and the patrols will continue as part of a planned programme to ensure the safety of the public.

A range of enforcement action can be imposed should it be required, to help prevent risks and encourage people to behave responsibly.

Shirley Plenderleith, Head of Public Services at Kettering Borough Council, said: “These joint patrols are fundamental in ensuring the public are reassured, safe and complying with the latest government guidance on Covid-19. Thank you to Northamptonshire Police and our Wardens for your outstanding efforts and helping to keep the community safe during this difficult time.”

Sergeant Megan Sae-Thang, from Northamptonshire Police, said: “I am really pleased with the results of the partnership work we are doing in Kettering. Covid places people in the local area at significant risk and it is important that we all do our part to adhere to regulations. By working closely with Kettering Borough Council, sharing information, evidence and conducting joint patrols with our Joint Enforcement Constables, Police Neighbourhood team, and Council wardens, we are able to robustly tackle Covid breaches and areas of concern together to make Kettering safer for the residents.”
