Prohibition Notice served to Bodyshapers Gym in Kettering
Kettering Borough Council has served a Prohibition Notice on Bodyshapers Gym, located on School Lane in Kettering, under Coronavirus legislation.
On Friday 22nd January 2021, the notice was served following a review of evidence provided by Northamptonshire Police, which showed the gymnasium was being used despite the requirement to be closed during the current lockdown, under The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (All Tiers) (England) Regulations 2020.
This business had previously flouted the law during the lockdown last summer, when another prohibition notice was served under different coronavirus legislation in effect at that time.
Shirley Plenderleith, Head of Public Services at Kettering Borough Council, said: “We are in the middle of the worst public health crisis for many years and yet still some businesses believe it does not affect them and they can continue as normal. Unfortunately, that is not the case and we will continue to enforce the law with all the powers we have to ensure that the steps necessary to get the virus under control are complied with.”
Note to Editor
Under the current requirements, attendance at a gymnasium would not only breach The Health Protection (Coronavirus Restrictions) (All Tiers) (England) Regulations 2020, but it is also classed as a non-essential journey and a breach of requirements relating to meetings indoors.
