Kettering Borough Council’s New Road Sweeper Named by Competition Winner at Mawsley Primary School
One of Kettering Borough Council’s new Road Sweeper vehicles has been named by the winner of the ‘Name the Sweeper’ competition at Mawsley Primary School.
Competition winner, Enzo, a Reception student, came up with the name of ‘Lightning McClean’ for the sweeper, after members of the Council’s Street Cleansing and Refuse & Recycling Team took it to the school and carried out a demonstration to show the children how it works.
Two classes of Reception students entered the competition to name the sweeper in September of this year.
Rebecca Underwood, Teacher at Mawsley Primary School, said: “We initially made contact with Louisa at Kettering Borough Council as part of our People Who Help Us topic at school and requested a visit from the recycling team. Louisa had previously brought along a recycling truck, but this year was even more exciting for our children in Foundation Stage! After much deliberation the children whittled the names down to just three - a very tricky task indeed! Enzo was the chosen winner with the name ‘Lightning McClean’. Today we were lucky enough to see the road sweeper in all its glory with the new name displayed on the side. Thank you to Louisa, Jordi and the team at KBC for this opportunity. “
