Kettering's Health & Wellbeing Festival Success!

Published: Tuesday, 2nd July 2019

Kettering Borough Council has held its first Health & Wellbeing Festival! The event, held at Northampton Road Recreation Ground and Boughton House, was deemed a great success by exhibitors & visitors.

The festival took place on the weekend of 22nd and 23rd June 2019, and provided a one stop site where people could find a wide variety of ways to help their health and wellbeing and where exhibitors had the opportunity to promote what they do and network with likeminded colleagues.

Both sites saw a steady flow of people coming to see what was on offer. With Saturday being more physically oriented and Sunday more focussed on the mental wellbeing side of things, there was something for everybody to enjoy.

Over the weekend, which saw many other activities take place across the borough, the complimentary therapy group in the Newlands Centre, Kettering, raised £585 from donations for their treatments to be shared between Cransley Hospice and Kettering General Hospital.

Shirley Plenderleith, Head of Public Services at Kettering Borough Council, said: “This is the first time we have done something like this and we didn’t know what to expect so we have been really pleased with all of the positive feedback that we have received from both days. We will be looking at what we can do next year to pick up where this event has left off. It was great to see so many people out of all ages trying various activities and talking to the stall holders”.

Councillor Scott Edwards, Kettering Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community and Leisure, said: “The health and wellbeing of the residents of the Borough of Kettering is so important at so many levels. To see such a positive reaction to what we did over this weekend shows that there is a real appetite for people wanting to improve their health and wellbeing so we will continue to encourage people to do so.”

The weekend also saw the launch of Kettering Sports Awards 2019. We want your help in our search for Kettering’s sporting heroes. Individuals and groups who live, study or work in the Borough of Kettering are eligible and the awards ceremony will be held at Wicksteed Park on 24th October 2019.
