Kettering Borough Council wins in both ‘Best Performer’ and ‘Most Improved’ categories at APSE awards.

Kettering Borough Council’s refuse and recycling and street cleansing service has been recognised as top performing at the 2018 Association of Public Service Excellence (APSE) Performance Network Awards. The refuse and recycling service won the ‘Best Performer in Refuse Collection’ award and Street Cleansing won the ‘Most Improved’ as well as being a finalist in the ‘Best Performer in Street Cleansing’ at this year’s awards ceremony.

The awards show the commitment of the team to continually improve our service and performance levels.  This is the first consecutive win for Best Performer in Refuse for Kettering Borough Council and the third in 4 years a great achievement.  Both teams have worked extremely hard to deliver a high quality service to the residents within the borough of Kettering and with the new joint working arrangement with Corby Borough Council due to start in February, this is a great start to the new working arrangement.

The announcement does more than reflect the Council’s increased performance – it throws light on its ability to meet the current financial challenges while improving productivity. The APSE Performance Network Awards provide an opportunity for information sharing between other organisations that recognise the hard work and dedication involved in delivering much-needed and valuable services to communities.

The APSE awards are unique in that they are based on actual performance data, which is assessed against a complex range of performance indicators, including cost, quality, workforce development and value-for-money.  The data is independently verified for accuracy and integrity following an initial assessment.

The awards are designed to recognise frontline services, delivered to local communities, by local councils

Brendan Coleman, Head of Environmental Care Services at Kettering Borough Council, said: “I am delighted that the performance of our refuse and recycling and street cleansing teams has been recognised. To win at the APSE Performance Network Awards is no mean feat. These awards reinforce our track record as a Council with excellent performance”.

Councillor Ian Jelley, Kettering Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment, said: “We’re proud to have won these awards, which demonstrate our ongoing commitment to providing the best environmental care services possible. We’re delighted to be recognised for providing a top class refuse collection and street cleansing service for the residents of the Borough of Kettering."
