Russ Ingram Wins Open18 People’s Choice Award
Local artist chosen as best in Alfred East Art Gallery’s open exhibition
This year’s Open18 exhibition at the Alfred East Art Gallery saw over 2,000 visitors cast 920 votes for the People’s Choice Award, which was won by local artist Russ Ingram for his amazing portrait, ‘Bowie ’.
Russ’s oil painting of the iconic singer was a much talked about piece and was also separately awarded 2nd prize overall by this year’s panel of judges, the prize being £250 generously sponsored by Averil Phillips. Russ had three works exhibited in the Open18 exhibition and for the first time in the gallery’s history, won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the People’s Choice Award with a total of 434 votes.
Kettering Museum & Art Gallery have offered Russ a solo exhibition in 2019/20, dates to be confirmed and announced.
There were more than 200 entrants to Open18 this year and the People’s Choice Award was an exciting deliberation for visitors to the Alfred East Art Gallery.
On behalf of Kettering Borough Council, Kettering Museum and Alfred East Art Gallery would like to congratulate all of the artists who took part in this year’s open exhibition; the standard was very high and we were impressed with the amount of entrants from new talent and from young artists.
Russ Ingram, winner of the Open18 People’s Choice Award, said:
“I was overwhelmed to receive 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the People Choice vote, and I’d like to say a big thanks to everyone who voted for me. To be invited to do an exhibition in the Alfred East Art Gallery is amazing.”
Guy Holloway, Head of Corporate & Cultural Services at Kettering Borough Council, said:
“This year’s competition had an overall popular winner for the Open18 People’s Choice Award. Every year the competition encourages more people to come along to the exhibition and participate in upcoming Open exhibitions. The Open18 People’s Choice award title is an invaluable opportunity for budding artists to have their work showcased and recognised in the award-winning Alfred East Art Gallery.”
Councillor Scott Edwards, Kettering Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community, Leisure & Youth, said:
“It’s wonderful to see local artists being given the chance to win and put on a solo exhibition at the Alfred East Art Gallery. There is some amazing talent in the area and as the winner of Open18 exhibition Russ is a great example of this. I can’t wait to see his exhibition next year.”
