Kettering Borough Council to carry out a review of members' allowances

Published: Wednesday, 13th December 2017

An Independent Panel is due to meet at 9.00 am on Friday 16th February 2018 at the Municipal Offices, Bowling Green Road, Kettering to review the Council's Members' Allowances.

The Panel will be chaired by Professor Steve Leach, Emeritus Professor of Public Policy, who will be joined by representatives of the local business and voluntary sectors.

The Panel has been convened under The Local Authorities (Members’ Allowances) (England) Regulations 2003. The regulations require all local authorities to maintain an advisory Independent Panel to review and provide advice on Members’ Allowances. All Councils are required to seek the Independent Panel's advice before they make any changes or amendments to their allowances scheme and they must pay regard to the Panel’s recommendations before setting a new or amended Member’s Allowances Scheme.

The Council is due to adopt the new scheme of members' allowances at its meeting on 25th April 2018.

A copy of the briefing pack is available on the Council’s website.  Representations may be made to the Chair of the Panel, in writing, by contacting Anne Ireson, Democratic Services Manager, Kettering Borough Council, Bowling Green Road, Kettering, NN15 7QX, or emailing anneireson@kettering.gov.uk
