Cold Weather Payments

You will qualify for a Cold Weather Payment if the average temperature recorded in your area is recorded as, or forecast to be, below zero for 7 consecutive days.  You'll get £25 for each 7 day period of cold weather between November 2019 and March 2020. You do not usually need to claim as you will receive the extra money automatically. You need to be on certain benefits to be eligible.

Winter Fuel Payment

If you were born on or before 5 April 1954 you could get between £100 and £300 to help with your fuel bills. You usually get the Winter Fuel Payment automatically. However if you don't receive the money and think you should, you can make a claim.

Warm Home Discount Scheme

You could qualify for up to £140 off your electric bill under the Warm Home Discount Scheme. The money is paid in the form of a discount rather than a cash payment and it is paid by your energy provider. If you are on a low income, you will apply to your supplier direct. If you receive the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit, you should receive a letter telling you how to claim.

Your energy provider will need to be one of those in the scheme for you to qualify.  Do not delay making your claim as there may be a cut off point or the number of grants made may be limited so you could miss out.
