What happens if I do not pay my rent?

Why is it important that I pay my rent?

You should always ensure that paying your rent is a priority.

When you sign your Tenancy Agreement with the Council, you agree to pay your rent and other charges weekly in advance.  It is therefore very important that you do not get behind with your payments.

However if you do fall into arrears, you must contact the Housing Income Team straight away to discuss this situation.

Be aware though that the Council can and will take enforcement action against tenants with rent arrears and this action could lead to the Council taking back possession of your property.

The first step in the recovery process is the service of a Notice of Seeking Possession.
