What is Sheltered Housing?
Sheltered Housing is designed to meet the needs of people over 55 who wish to remain in the community and live independently but would benefit from additional support.
We have ten sheltered housing schemes across the borough, each with a dedicated Scheme Manager and the additional assistance of the Support Worker Team. All schemes consist of either flats or bungalows for rent, some of which have been adapted for people with disabilities. Each property is self contained and has its own front door. Scheme Managers and Support Workers provide a completely personalised service and although they do not provide care they are the link to other agencies and services.
Details on our Sheltered Schemes can be found here or to request a copy of our Sheltered Housing Scheme Profiles brochure, please telephone 01536 410333.
To apply for sheltered housing you will need to complete a Keyways application form, which can be obtained from our Customer Service Centres or completed online at www.keyways.org.uk.
Rents including service charges range from £77.06 to £101.14. All charges are reviewed and set at the beginning of each financial year. All charges (including service option) are charged for the lifetime of the tenancy.
Our Scheme Managers and Support Workers offer a personalised support service which is tailored to your individual needs. The service options are:
Lifeline alarm and sheltered alarm only support for £5.00 per week
An intensive housing management service is available for £14.81per week which is completely tailored to individual requirements
We also offer an additional telephone service at weekends if required, £4.00 for 1 call and £8.00 for 2 calls.
All our services are completely flexible and are designed to provide our customers with the exact service they need whilst maintaining their independence. Depending on personal circumstances customers may be eligible for housing benefit to cover the rent and housing management charge. Unfortunately alarms do not qualify for housing benefit. For further advice regarding your eligibility for these benefits please contact us on 01536 410333.
