Landlord Improvement Grant
What is it?
The landlord Improvement Grant provides assistance to private sector landlords to make vital improvements to their properties in order to accommodate vulnerable households. Qualifying landlords should consider the Private Sector Leasing Scheme here, which enables landlords to work with the council to provide accommodation for those in immediate housing need.
Eligible works include:
• The removal of Category 1 hazards under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System
• Works to provide a reasonable degree of thermal comfort
• Works to ensure the fabric of the building is wind and weather proof
• Works to ensure reasonable and functional kitchen and bathroom facilities
How it works:
You can fill out an application for grant assistance here. Once we receive a landlord’s application for grant assistance, an officer from the Private Sector Housing team will inspect your property to see which eligible works are required. The team will offer you a grant of up to £5,000 (or £10,000 for Houses in Multiple Occupation), with a requirement for you to match fund the value of the grant. Landlords who apply for assistance with multiple properties will receive a maximum of £5,000 (or £10,000 for Houses in Multiple Occupation); regardless of how many properties require improvement works.
Terms and Conditions:
The Landlord Improvement Grant is payable at the discretion of the Council, and will only be awarded where there are tangible benefits for the Council and as available funds will allow. The grant is not able to be paid retrospectively towards improvement works that have been completed without prior assessment from the council.
