Council Tax Recovery
After a liability order has been made in the Magistrates' Court, the Council may issue a letter requesting income details. Failure to return the questionnaire can render the debtor liable to a fine.
The letter states:
- The balance outstanding on the liability order (including costs)
- If the account is not cleared within 14 days, the account will be passed to the Council's Enforcement Agents
- If the account is passed to the Enforcement Agents more costs will be added to the debt
- The fact that offers/arrangements will be considered if made on the income questionnaire
