Liability Order

After a liability order has been made in the Magistrates' Court, the Council may issue a letter requesting income details. Failure to return the questionnaire can render the debtor liable to a fine.

The letter states:

  • The balance outstanding on the liability order (including costs)
  • If the account is not cleared within 14 days, the account will be passed to the Council's Enforcement Agents
  • If the account is passed to the Enforcement Agents more costs will be added to the debt
  • The fact that offers/arrangements will be considered if made on the income questionnaire
