Request for Backdated Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Support

Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support is normally awarded from the Monday after we receive your claim form. However, if you have a reason as to why you could not claim earlier we may be able to award backdated benefit.

Backdated benefit can only be awarded if you can show 'good cause' for not claiming earlier. If you have evidence you feel may support your request for backdated benefit, please provide this to the Council.

Due to Housing and Council Tax Benefit regulations, backdated benefit can only be awarded for a period up to one month before the date the backdate request was received.

Each request for backdated benefit will be considered based on the information supplied on this form, including any supporting evidence supplied. If you have claimed benefit before we will consider your past benefit history. If we need further information to support your backdate request we may contact you asking you to provide this.

You will be notified in writing of the decision made. If you disagree with the decision, your appeal rights are detailed in the letter.
