A range of Art Workshops are held at the Alfred East Art Gallery. Whether you are a beginner or a professional, there is something for everyone.

Textile Screen-printing with Leicester Print Workshop

Saturday 20th July, 10am - 4pm

Spend the day exploring the process of screen textile printing using stencils. You will use multiple colours and layers to create beautiful images. You can experiment with repeating your designs and colour mixing overlay. A day for complete beginners full of fun and discovery.

Please note the price of this workshop is higher due to the type of course, resulting in a higher cost of materials and a smaller number of spaces available.

Drawing Workshop with Jamie Boots

Graphite pencil can be used to produce so much more than just a sketch. Using a pencil blunt or sharp, pressing lightly or hard and using a variety of tones, learn how to create the effect of fur and feathers, the texture of skin and the glassy look of an eye.

With the expert tuition from Jamie over the course of the weekend, you will learn and be able to practice new techniques to develop your drawing skills.

All abilities welcome. All materials provided.

Drawing in Ink - British Wildlife with Catherine Matthews

Saturday 7th September, 10am - 4pm

This workshop will cover a range of techniques and tools for drawing with ink. 
It will be a relaxed and informative workshop, suitable for all abilities, with qualified art teacher and professional artist, Catherine Matthews, as your tutor. 

All materials are included, plus a card mount for your favourite finished drawing.

Drawing the Portrait with Cordell Garfield

Saturday 19th October, 10am - 4pm

The workshop will guide you through creating and drawing a pencil portrait. Participants will use a portrait photo provided at the workshop, although they can work on their own reference photo if required.

Cordell will provide advice on general head proportions and anatomy, including techniques to develop your drawing skills. The aim of the workshop is to give you the skills and the confidence in approaching portrait drawing.

Mono Printing with Leicester Print Workshop

Saturday 16th November,
10am - 4pm

£50.00 Adults
£40.00 Kettering Leisure Pass Holders


You will learn how to use cut paper stencils laid on inked printing plates to create bold and colourful prints. The process explores layering shapes and colours and we will be printing on paper using a small portable press. 

All materials will be provided. This is an ideal introduction to printmaking and no experience is necessary.

To book your workshop place, please contact us via email at museumandgallery@kettering.gov.uk or telephone the Gallery on 01536 534274. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and your place on the course is not guaranteed until we receive both a completed workshop booking form and data protection form plus the full course payment from you. 

Please fill in both a booking and data protection form and return these to the address below along with payment or alternatively visit the Gallery. Booking forms and data protection forms are available for download below or can be collected from the Art Gallery. If you are booking for more than one workshop, please note that a separate booking form should be submitted for each.
