Watch the Olympic Torch Relay
Published Monday, 18 June 2012
The Torch comes to Kettering, Geddington and Dingley on Monday 2 July
The route of the Torch will bring it through the heart of the town and ensures that as many people as possible have the opportunity to celebrate as it passes through the Borough.
The Torch will be carried through Kettering starting on Pytchley Road at 12.07pm and arriving on the Market Place at 12.39pm. There will be an hour break before the Torch travels through the Town Centre finishing along Stamford Road at 1.54pm. The Torch will then be driven in convoy to Geddington at 2pm and carried through the village via the Eleanor Cross before leaving towards Corby. The Torch will return to the Borough when it reaches Dingley at 3.07pm.
Road closures will take place along the route from 11am across Kettering and will last until the Torch has passed and crowds have dispersed. Road closures will start on Pytchley Road at the Bryant Road junction and head towards the Market Place following the route of the Torch. The second stage of road closures will begin at 12.30pm from the Town Centre to Stamford Roads Ivy Road junction. Sheep Street, Market Place and Market Street will be closed all day.
On street parking will also be suspended on the day. Parking restrictions will be in place from 00:01am on Monday, 2 July which means parked cars will need to be moved otherwise they could be towed. Some town centre car parks will also have limited access due to the road closures. Bus routes and times will also be affected across the town so anyone who uses public transport should contact their local provider for more details.
Detailed information for visitors and businesses is now available on Kettering Borough Councils website www.kettering.gov.uk/olympictorchrelay including a map of the route and details of the road closures. Kettering Borough Council will also be holding a drop in session on 19 June and 27 June between 5pm & 7pm at Kettering Borough Councils offices.
Cllr Russell Roberts, Leader of the Council said:
We are proud to have the Olympic Torch passing through so much of our Borough in recognition of its beauty. It will pass popular landmarks such as Wicksteed Park, our award winning Market Place and the Queen Eleanor Cross where residents will gain a unique opportunity to see the Torch on display. This is Our Moment to Shine and line the streets of our Borough showing support for and meeting our inspirational local heroes as they carry sports greatest symbol through our communities.
