Street Pastors Receive Community Thanks

Kettering’s Street Pastors have received thanks from a mother and son thanks to their quick action.
During a busy Saturday evening in Kettering’s Town Centre this month a team of street pastors came across a young man experiencing an epileptic seizure on Eskdaill Street. Their quick action helped the young man …
A few days later the Street Pastors received a phone call from the young man thanking them Street Pastors personally and a thankful email was also received from the young mans parents.

hi this is just to say thank you for helping and looking after my son *** on saturday night . *** had an epileptic seizure on Eskdaill Street and according to my daughter in law you were brilliant kind and caring .
*** is a newly diagnosed epileptic and as yet not got his medication sorted so once again thank you very much from two very grateful parents xx
Two teams of four have been out patrolling Kettering’s streets every Saturday night whatever the weather for over 10 months from 11pm until 3am. During this period they have helped and supported members of the community available to stop and chat as well as listen and help.
Councillor Steve Bellamy, portfolio holder for Community and Culture said:
‘Street pastors have been engaging local people that are using the night time economy and making a big difference. Street pastors have a calming non confrontational air about them. They are non judgemental, and are received very well in Kettering town centre.’
He also added:
‘We all know people that volunteer and quite often take them for granted. We owe the Street Pastors a huge thank you for fulfilling just one part of Kettering’s prevention agenda. Their excellent work has a very significant benefit to our local services including the police and the pressures that face our local accident and emergency department.’
Fiona de Boltz, Co-ordinator for Kettering Street Pastors, said:
‘The Street Pastors are a great bunch of individuals, drawn from sixteen local churches. They enjoy meeting all sorts of people, and showing God’s love whilst out on the streets by listening, caring and helping in practical ways. We aim to help to bring peace to the streets.’
Inspector Dick Aistrop, Kettering Borough Sector Commander at Northamptonshire Police said:
‘Street Pastors have been a huge success both nationally and locally. They are there to help anyone in need and are non-judgemental and non-confrontational in the way they do so. People are happy and confident to engage with them and feel safer as a result. Their very presence can be a calming influence and that in itself has to help prevent some of the violence that can take place. I am delighted that they are seeking to increase their numbers.’
The current 34 Street Pastors come from 16 different churches across the town and surrounding areas, and are aged from mid 20s to 80+! More Street Pastors are currently in training and will soon join the current group.
The Street Pastors initiative is supported by Churches Together, Northamptonshire Police, Kettering Borough Council and the Kettering Community Safety Partnership, with set up grants from the police and the Council.
