Nature Events - Desborough Greenspace

Published Monday, 21 May 2012

Meet at Desborough Leisure Centre car park at 10am on Saturday 26th May for the first of a series of nature events at Stanwick Lakes!

The folks behind the iconic Stanwick Lakes are to run a series of four nature events at the Desbrough Greenspace during 2012. The events will be family focussed and aimed at teaching people about the hidden sides of the natural world.

The events will be run by Rangers from Stanwick Lakes and the events will be supported by the professional gardeners from Kettering Council’s acclaimed Grounds Maintenance team.

The series of nature events kicks off this Saturday 26th May at 10am with the ‘New Beginnings’ event which focuses on new life / new growth . The event will include a treasure hunt (which we would set up), a ranger walk with ‘story sticks’ which are a lovely way of explaining a natural area and wild crafts/environmental art sitting round a table under the gazebo (weather permitting).  Meet at the new Desborough Leisure Centre at 10am.

Further events will include;

Summer Saturday 14 July

· Mini Beast event with a bug hunt, a bug hotel-making session, bug crafts under gazebo (see above), exploring camouflage, and a summer picnic round near the balancing pond.

Autumn Saturday 15th September

· ‘Nature’s harvest’: Seed collecting, blackberry picking, leaf collecting (for pressing and picture making), guided walk with ranger, with things for children to find along the way (scavenger hunt), focus on hibernators and why some animals hibernate at this time of year, crafts under gazebo

Winter Saturday 24th November

· Brisk winter walk with a ‘winter folkore’ theme, plus winter treasure hunt for the children
