New Aluminium Recycling Project launched in Kettering

Published Wednesday 26th November 08

The environmentally aware people at Red Dog and The Henley Centre are launching a new aluminium foil and can recycling project called Cobwebs throughout the Kettering Borough

The scheme will help save natural resources, and reduce waste going into landfill. Recycling aluminium foil saves 95% of the energy it takes to make it from raw material.

Cobwebs which is operated by adults with learning difficulties, will be working with local business, schools, community groups and clubs to collect and process aluminium foil and drinks cans. The new recycling group will sort and compact the aluminium foil before it is sold for recycling, with all the funds raised from the sale of the metal going to the group.

The group have been supported by the Aluminium Packaging Recycling Organisation [Alupro] and Kettering Borough Council who have kindly purchased the Aluminium Foil bins. These will be situated at four supermarkets within the town, Morrison's,  Sainsbury's, Tesco and The Co Op. All who have agreed to become collection points.  Everybody is sure that the venture will be a great success and a real benefit to the local environment.  Finally the group would like to say a big thank you to all involved for there continuing support help and advice.

Recycling aluminium saves up to 95% of the energy used in the primary production, so saving natural resources as well as reducing litter and waste, the energy saving off just 15gr of aluminium could run a television for up to three hours.
