Natural History Society

Talks/slide shows on Friday evenings. During the summer, weather permitting, field trips are organised.

Are you interested in all things bright and beautiful?  The wonder of natural history.  All presented to you mainly by illustrated slide show talks which cover subjects such as birds, wild flowers, archaeology, photography, microscopy, entomology, and many other wildlife aspects.

July events:-  Friday 4th: An evening walk in Lower Benefield village, with a botanical flavour, meet at the church at 7pm.  Leader: 01933 277966.  Sunday 20th: Bedford Purlieus walk, meet at Grid Ref: 53(TF)03.9;00 on the west side of the wood at 10.30am.  Full day, bring lunch.  Leader: 01933 225397.  Wednesday 23rd: An evening walk around Naseby with Brian Dix.  Meet at 7pm at Naseby Obelisk on the Clipston road. Leader: 01536 520107.  Saturday 26th: All day joint outing with Northants & Cambridge Flora Groups to study aquatic plants in fen ditches around the Newborough area in the Soke of Peterborough.  Meet at Newborough church at 11am.  Bring packed lunch. Rothwell Arts & Heritage Centre

Ground floor: history & heritage. Upper galleries: pottery, painting, arts & crafts for sale

On the ground floor, changing exhibitions reflecting aspects of the history of this market town. On the first floor there are four galleries displaying work of local artists and craftspeople, which is changed every two months.  A range of cards and gifts suitable for Christmas and all occasions are on sale.

Fun Football - Fridays

Enjoy a game of football in a relaxed no pressure atmosphere. Open to boys and girls of all abilities aged 5 to 13 years.

This exhibition offers an insight into life during World War II. It takes first-hand accounts of ordinary people living through extraordinary times.

This museum houses a display covering the history of Desborough, from the earliest settlements to the 20th century. Call in and have a look round and chat to the museum's enthusiastic volunteers.

Watercolour Painting Course

A course of 2 workshops for adults - beginners and old hands - in the techniques of painting with watercolours.

For this course students will learn about painting out of doors.  Students will use small sketch books and larger watercolour sheets to build up a 'library of information'.  Producing quick sketches, colour tests and exploring techniques.  They will then use these studies as a guide when producing their final painting.  We will look at different techniques such as wet on wet, wet on dry, and dry on dry.  The subject focus will be on townscapes, using the area around the gallery for inspiration.  If the weather is unsuitable, students can work from their sketches indoors.

Participants must provide their own materials.  A list of these can be supplied on demand.
