Housing Benefit Overpayments
Have you been paid too much benefit?
If you are paid too much benefit it is called an 'overpayment'.
Overpayment of benefit can occur if circumstances change and entitlement is reduced or stops altogether.
If we pay you too much benefit we will send you a letter detailing:
- why you were paid too much
- how much the overpayment is
- if you have to pay the amount back
- how you can appeal if you think the decision is wrong
Recovery of Housing Benefit overpayments is regulated by law. It is the Council's duty to try to recover overpayments from tenants and landlords.
You can repay your overpayment on line, in order to do so please click here.
