Museum and Art Gallery: Talks

Monthly Lunchtime Talks at the Alfred East Art Gallery, covering art and history topics.

May Lunchtime Talk, Women and the History of Art by Angela Scheidegger

When: Friday 6 May 1-2pmLunchtime Talk May

Tickets £5, £3.50 with a Kettering Leisure Pass

“Elisabetta Sirani painted the ‘Self-Portrait as Allegory of Painting’ (1658), now in the Pushkin Museum, Moscow. People sometimes think that there were not many female artists in the past but Elisabetta was very famous in her day (17th century) and actually ran a school for women artists in her home town of Bologna. We probably all know of Tracey Emin, Bridget Riley, Barbara Hepworth etc but I would like to show that there were a considerable number of female artists who all deserve a more prominent place in the history of art.”

Light refreshments will be available from 12.30pm until the start of the talk.

Seats are limited so please book early by calling the Gallery on 01536 534274 to avoid disappointment.
