February Lunchtime Talk, Wicksteed Charitable Trust; Our Centenary by Charlotte Widgery

When: Friday 19th February 1-2pm

Tickets: £5, £3.50 with a Kettering Leisure Pass

"Find out how Charles Wicksteed came to establish the charity, and how his vision and ideals evolved and have shaped the park we know so well. I'll also be looking at the future of Wicksteed Park and how we will be celebrating 100 years of children's play."

Light refreshments will be available from 12.30pm until the start of the talk.

The Roman Occupation of Eastern England, Part 1 by John Cartwright

John Cartwright lives locally and is an acknowledged expert in the history of Roman England. John will present the first part of the story. Although not much in evidence above the ground in Kettering, the Romans were very active in this area, as archaeology has shown. Come and find out more about this fascinating chapter in our past.

Come and hear the amazing and amusing history of Kettering’s bid to take to the skies! The ‘Flying Flea’, as it was known was invented and built locally and achieved brief fame before being lost in obscurity. It’s subsequent discovery, abandoned and neglected, and what happened next is sure to interest and amaze you.
