Christmas at Kettering’s Market Place 17th – 23rd December

With one week to go until Christmas the fun continues in Kettering this weekend with the arrival of Children’s Fair Rides and Santa’s Grotto on the Market Place.
17th - 23rd December, 1pm - 4pm
Santa will be opening his magical grotto inside Kettering's Market Place buildings. Come and explore Santa's enchanting Winter Wonderland and meet the important man himself. Minimum contribution of 50p, all proceeds going to local charities across the Borough.
Santa's Grotto will remain open till 7pm during late night shopping Thursday 22nd December.
Children's Fair Rides
17th - 23rd December, 1pm - 4pm
Enjoy family fun at Kettering's Market Place as a festive fairground experience arrives the week before Christmas. Children's rides will include a toy set, cups and saucers and a train ride to entertain the whole family. Children's fairground rides will cost £1 per child.
Kettering Borough Council has been working closely with businesses in the area in order to help promote Kettering as the place for Christmas. Free parking has been organised during late night shopping on Thursday's from 4pm and every Sunday. Parking will be available in London Road, School Lane and Wadcroft car parks and will also include the Newlands Shopping Centre car park.
22nd December, 5pm - 7pm
The local 50s rock and roll band The Strollers will be bringing the Market Place to life like only they know how.
Christmas at the Museum and Gallery
17th December 10.30am -12pm
Workshops for making your own sock puppet
17th December 2pm - 3.30pm
Workshop for decorating a Christmas stocking
£3 or £1.50 with a leisure pass for the workshops
17th December 2pm - 4pm at the Manor House Museum
If you aged between13 -19 and are interested in being part of a group of young people who will create an exhibition to be shown in 2012 then there is a recruiting event on Saturday to find out more.
Valerie Hitchman Head of Community Services at Kettering Borough Council said:
"It's great to see so many people using the Market Place and Manor House Museum and Alfred Gallery as part of their Christmas at Kettering. There is free entertainment and things to do which people are really enjoying."
She also added
"If you have not seen what is going on in the Town Centre recently, why not pay a visit and experience our Winter Wonderland at Kettering's Market Place and do a spot of Christmas shopping, pop into the shop in the Manor House Museum and have a look in the craft case at the Alfred East Gallery."
Councillor Steve Bellamy, Portfolio Holder for Community and Culture said
"The Council has been working hard behind the scenes to make sure that this years Christmas celebrations are best and biggest yet. Our Winter Wonderland scene for Santa's Grotto has really come to life and looks amazing. If you have not had a chance to visit Santa make sure you come down to the Market Place this week with all proceeds going to local charities."
