Martin Sellars will be presenting his work as part of a solo exhibition at the Alfred East Art Gallery from 8th October – 12th November. The exhibition slot at the Alfred East Art Gallery was awarded to him as a prize for winning ‘The People’s Choice Award’ for the 2015 Open exhibition. Each year visitors are asked to vote for a piece of work of which they feel they would like to see more from the artist and last year Martin received the highest number of votes.

His piece ‘Seven For A Secret’ was the winning painting, and can be seen as part of the exhibition alongside several more examples from Martin. He will play host to a preview of his work on 7th October, 6-8pm, before the show officially launches on 8th.

A self-taught artist from Northamptonshire, most of Sellars’ work is in oils or acrylic using a vibrant palette, exploring and exaggerating colour. As can be found in the exhibition, Sellars is not limited to one medium, style or concept however much of his work is inspired by the natural world with birds and animals playing a starting role.

Guy Holloway, Head of Corporate & Cultural Services at Kettering Borough Council, said:

“Martin’s work impressed judges at last year’s open15 so we were delighted to offer him a solo exhibition which builds on that success here at Kettering Museum & Art Gallery. open17 will return in May next year and we will once again be inviting artists of all ages and abilities, professional or amateur, to enter for the opportunity to win a solo exhibition.”

Cllr Jan Smith, Kettering Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community & Culture, said:

“It’s wonderful to see local artists being given the chance to put on an exhibition at the Alfred East Art Gallery. There’s some amazing talent in the area and as the winner of open15 Martin is a great example of this. I can’t wait to see his exhibition.”
