Village Design Statements & Parish Plans

Village Design Statements (VDS) are intended to provide a context for new development, based on local character and sense of place. Their purpose is to manage change, whether that change is major new development or cumulative, small-scale additions and alterations to a village. They are about how development should be carried out, so that it is in harmony with its setting and makes a positive contribution to the local environment.

Parish Plans set out the vision for how a community wants to develop and identify actions required to achieve this vision.  Parish Plans have the potential to influence a wide range of organisations and processes which affect the lives of rural communities. They should complement and help deliver local planning policies and frameworks but cannot override adopted planning policies.
