East Kettering S.U.E. - Overview

Community and Leisure Facilities

image

Community and Leisure facilities are planned across the SUE. Between 2,500 and 4,000 sq m of Community Space and 1,800 sq m of leisure space (sufficient for a four-court sports hall) are located within the District Centre. The three Local Centres will share 600 sq m of Leisure Space, the exact split to be agreed later. A minimum of 450 sq m of Community Space is to be provided at each Local Centre. The use of school facilities by the community has been agreed in principle, so a significant amount of space could be available for community use.

There will inevitably be some cross over between the Community and Leisure uses, with these buildings and spaces being used for and by a number of different groups with the SUE Community. For example the Community building in the District Centre will be designed to accommodate a range of community activities (playgroups, scouts/guides, drama productions discos etc) but could also accommodate sports activities, and in a similar manner, leisure space could be used for putting on plays etc. The Hall/Sports spaces with one of the Primary schools could be used by sports groups at night/weekends and the holidays. As can be seen there are a multitude of ways in which this space could be used. This, coupled with the long build out for the East Kettering SUE (10 years plus) means that a degree of flexibility in the provision of these facilities is needed. This is why the amount of space required has been agreed now, but the exact detail of what is within the spaces has been left open for discussion at a later date. Leaving the details of this space open will also allow those people who will live in East Kettering SUE in the future to have a say in what facilities are provided, rather than it all being decided now.
