The homelessness rules have been put in place by law to help you (provided you fulfil certain criteria) if your homelessness cannot be prevented by bidding on Keyways or by early intervention following a housing options appointment. By making a homeless application you are agreeing to have the circumstances surrounding the loss of your previous accommodation investigated. The investigation is looking to establish whether you are/have:

  • Eligible for assistance
  • Homeless
  • In priority need
  • Not responsible for your own homelessness (unintentionally homeless)
  • A local connection to Kettering Borough

In order to do this evidence is required to support the information you give in your application. A decision cannot be made without evidence therefore, if you are getting into difficulty with your housing, you should keep all of the paperwork relating to this. We will also need to see a range of other items including identification for everybody on the application and proof that you have a connection to Kettering Borough.

It can sometimes take time to complete a thorough investigation and we may need to place you in temporary accommodation while this is being carried out. The kind of temporary accommodation you are offered depends on your circumstances.
