The Green Patch Community Allotment project

The Green Patch is a Community Allotment Project on Valley Walk in Kettering run by the Charity Groundwork Northamptonshire. It is a two and a half acre site leased from Kettering Borough Council. Not only is the Green Patch a place where residents from the local community can go to buy fresh eggs, fruit and vegetables but it exist as a safe practical-based learning environment for schools, individuals, vulnerable adults and children to gain new skills and qualifications.

It is accessible to everyone regardless of age, background or disability and provides a 'community hub' that promotes community cohesion, environmental awareness, sustainable lifestyles and healthy eating/living and improves social and mental well being to all that are involved.

The Green Patch makes a real difference and has a positive effect on the people who access the project; it has played a major part in the personal development of many volunteers, employees and service users and the with opportunities from simply volunteering for an afternoon a week to work placements and personal development plans it is a valuable community resource.

All the proceeds from the sale of vegetables and plants from the Green Patch will be reinvested back into the project and the local community in the form of local events, school gardening projects and securing the long term future of a valuable community resource.
