Q: How can I pay the Council Tax?

Paying your Council Tax Council Tax is a yearly charge that we normally ask you to pay over 10 instalments beginning in April, unless other arrangements have been made.

We will always give you 14 days notice before instalments are due to begin. Your Council Tax bill clearly states the instalment dates and the amounts you need to pay to clear the bill in year.

Payment Options:

Direct Debit

Paying by Direct Debit is the simplest, cheapest and most convenient method of paying your Council Tax, saving you and the Council a lot of time and trouble. It is also the only method that allows you a choice of dates - either the 1st or 15th of the month.

If you wish to pay by Direct Debit, or change the payment date of an existing Direct Debit to one of the available options, please telephone our Response Centre on 01536 534235 to set up a new paperless Direct Debit or amend your details over the telephone.

Alternatively you can complete a Direct Debit mandate and return it to us. Please note that the mandate is a double-sided colour document, so if you would like us to put one in the post please telephone the Response Centre on 01536 534235.

By Using your Barcoded Bill

If you do not have a bank account your barcoded bill enables you to pay your Council Tax by cash at Post Offices and PayPoint convenience stores and service stations, without incurring a fee. Just present your barcoded bill at the time of making your payment.

A swipe card can also be issued at your request which is used in the same way.

Over the Telephone

Payment can be made by credit or debit card by telephoning our response centre on 01536 534235 between 8:30am and 4:30pm Monday to Friday. Outside of these hours ONLY you can use your swipe card or barcoded bill to make a credit or debit card payment by telephoning 08702436040 - in this case you will need your 19 digit code on your swipe card or barcoded bill, so please ensure either is to hand before calling.

By BACS Transfer/ On-Line Bill Payment

The Council's bank details are as follows: HSBC Bank plc, 9 High Street, Kettering. Sort code: 40-26-07, bank account number: 11268732.

Please ensure your name, address and account number are quoted.

Over the Internet 24/7

Sign in to our website and select MAKE A PAYMENT at the top of our home page to make a payment at a time that suits you. Please note you must be registered with the website to make an online payment.

By Post

Cheques can be made payable to KETTERING BOROUGH COUNCIL and sent to Municipal Offices, Bowling Green Road, Kettering, Northants, NN15 7QX, quoting your Council Tax number on the reverse. Post dated cheques will not be accepted.

Please note - paying by certain methods means there will be a delay of several days before payment reaches your Council Tax account. You will need to take this into account when making payment to ensure that it is credited to your account by the 1st of the month.
